“No, Really, I’m Good….”
Ever said that? Yes, me too. I heard it from a ministry friend the other day. They reached out as they wanted to talk and I could tell they really needed to talk. But whe I asked, “how are you?” it was, “I’m Good.”
I find many leaders who think they are ‘good’ and yet in their spirits they are not good. They have been running hard. Ministry during Covid-19 has increased the stress level for so many leaders. Ministry changes, cancellations. Now leaders have learned how to host Zoom meetings, created videos and learning how to host them all online. Creating worship bags and take home boxes for families to worship together. Every week developing something new and interactive for both online and home experiences.
But, hey, I’m good, really, I’m good….
Are you Good? Is your soul good?
It’s ok to be real with me, as like I said earlier, I’ve said these words, I’ve done similar things and yet, my soul, me real me hasn’t been good. When we aren’t honest with ourselves, it can have serious consequences. Every week, good leaders quit. Every week, good leaders burnout. Every week good leaders contemplate ending their lives.
It’s time to come together and say, “is your soul, really good?” and you can outloud say, “no, i’m not ok, I’m not good.” I’m ______________.
David got real in Psalm 53, He said, ” My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death assail me.
5 Fear and trembling have beset me;
horror has overwhelmed me.
6 I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest—
7 I would flee far away
and stay in the desert; Selah
8 I would hurry to my place of shelter,
far from the tempest and storm.” NIV
This was real, for me I wouldn’t want dove wings, I want Eagles wings! I want to fly high and far! There were times in ministry I would have paid anything for a ticket to anywhere but here.
So how do we change?
Here a couple steps forward;
First step, get real with your soul. Ask God the Father to show you who you really are, not the image you’ve learned to manage and protect. Get real. Allow the Holy Spirit to dig deep and show you. Don’t keep any interior doors to your heart closed off. Open them all and you will experience the fresh move and refreshing changes that God brings.
Second step, get connected with someone else. We all need someone to walk with. Find someone ahead of you in life or has expereinced ministry life. Find someone who when you share your story, can say, I get that. Then, share it. share your story. share your life. and ask for how they walked through it. How did they move forward? How did they survive and thrive?
Third step, get moving in a new direction. Set a course that leads you to a place where you can lead and serve without fear of protecting your image. You can say no to things safely. You can live at a pace where the Spirit is leading you and your not running ahead of him. Lead yourself and your ministry in a way that reflects God.
Take three steps and then God will show you the next steps.
Need someone to journey with? I’m one who’s been there and done that. I’m devoting my life to helping others walk through it. I’d be honored to help you too.
