I was doing my devotions the other day and God challenged my heart and I felt prompted to write after a time of not feeling like writing.

In Hebrews 13:7-8 “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” NIV

It hit me that a big mistake young and older too alike make is, forgetting that we must apply this verse first so we can lead others in the right way.  It’s not about leadership style, organizational style, etc. It’s about these two things. First, he says, “Consider the outcome of their way of life”  Wow if you let that sink in, is powerful stuff!  How are you living before others? Is the outcome of your daily life something worth following?

Secondly, he says, “imitate their FAITH!!  How is your FAITH? Is it God-sized? Does it need strengthening? Do you need to daily pray, “Lord help my unbelief?”

As I’ve been a leader for almost 30 years now, I’ve had some who didn’t like the way I organized. Didn’t like the way I communicate, didn’t like the way I led.  I can see I failed in some areas but also succeeded in others. I’m grateful that God has given me glimpses of his producing fruit in me  by allowing me to see those I’ve led, now leading others, some have even blessed me by saying they learned from me. What an honor and blessing that I try to consider daily my way of life and my faith, it will always be the desire of my heart to live in a way that leads others to follow Christ more closely.

Some leaders want their name on a conference header, or on a book, at one time I wished for that too. But that is a huge mistake! My longing now is to lead those behind me to do what I do, by daily looking to Jesus the Author and finisher of my FAITH!  My only desire now is to hear WELL DONE!

As you reflect on the questions above, what challenges you? who’s leadership do you recall and look at as a model?
