Have you checked out one of the newest kids on the block when it comes to Vacation Bible School? Joshua Denhart a full-time children’s pastor has produced a great resource with a fresh look and creativity.  I received an opportunity to preview the plans for his Basic Elements VBS kit.

As I poured over the provided materials I believe this statement is true. Josh has taken a fresh approach that I totally am excited about!  When I consult with churches I remind them that one of the best strategies for engaging today’s kids is to “think blue.”  This means to target those boys that are in 3-5 grades, if you do this you will draw boys and girls of all ages.

Josh totally gets this! His kit is filled with lots of ideas, projects and science experiments that any boy or girl will love. The best part of all of this “science” stuff is that you don’t have to have a PhD. to understand it.  He provides lots of explanations and ideas of how you can make this happen.

The Basic Elements kit focuses on the BASIC’s of the Faith  Believe, Ask, Serve, Impact, Celebrate!  Each day’s lesson plans present a solid gospel message which is different from most kits where the gospel is really only given on Thursday.  If you’re like me, (yes, I’m old school) I believe you should present the gospel each day and allow God to decide when a child takes that step of faith.

If you’re not a VBS craft fan like me, you’ll be happy to know there are NO CRAFTS!! (craft haters unite, LOL!) Josh has pulled together some awesome ideas that will have even the men in the church volunteering to work in the science projects area. The kids in this rotation will get to build a rocket that they actually get to launch! Some really cool and totally safe, chemical reactions, along with a catapult!  Trust me the kids will love this and so will the volunteers! Josh even has created videos that will step by step teach how to do each project so that those who are leading don’t have to worry about how to explain the projects.

Preschoolers with love this too, Josh did a great job setting up the preschool ministry to have an amazing time too! Their activities and lessons are geared just of them and they don’t miss out on any of the cool factors.

Each element of the BASICS VBS kit are well thought out and have a reason for being a part of the kit. The music is fun, and totally scripture based, so if you want kids to learn God’s word, it will be all over the music!

I can highly recommend the kit to you because I believe it has everything you would need to have a gospel filled outreach that kids will remember for a long time. Josh provides you with all the essential elements and gives you all the access you need to conduct a fantastic outreach. With his instructional videos, lesson plans, lists of where to find all the necessary items you would need, it is a solid program and one of my top contenders for Vacation Bible School this summer at my church.
